The transformation of sailors into pigs is so matter-of-fact here. Miller strips away the moralizing Homer layered on and asks: what would a woman alone on an island actually do when violent men arrive? Circe's witchcraft isn't villainy, it's self-preservation. The feminist reframe works because it never announces itself as one.
