771 pages??? I made it 200 pages in and nothing had happened except a kid being sad in a rich person's apartment. Beautiful writing I guess but life is too short.

I don't have the mythology background to follow half the references and the pacing is way too literary for me. Respect the craft but this isn't my kind of book.

Finally something with actual stakes and actual consequences. The art goes so hard it should be illegal. Yeah it's dark but at least stuff HAPPENS.

I know it's a classic and basically invented the genre but the pacing feels glacial compared to anything written in the last 30 years. The Shire chapters read like a nature documentary. Respect the influence but I need things to actually happen. Watched the movies instead.
