Romance and cozy fantasy stan. Will DNF without guilt. Life's too short for books that don't spark joy.

The House in the Cerulean Sea
TJ Klune
I ugly-cried on the bus. This book is a warm blanket that also somehow dismantles institutional bigotry? TJ Klune said 'cozy fantasy with teeth' and delivered.

Beautiful writing, fascinating character, but the middle section dragged for me. Some of the mythological references went over my head. Still glad I read it — the ending stuck with me for days.

I really wanted to love this but I hit a wall around Tom Bombadil and couldn't get past it. The songs, the walking, the endless descriptions of trees — I know this is heresy but it just wasn't for me. I can absolutely see why people adore it. Maybe I'll try the audiobook someday.

Great vibes, great protagonist, satisfying ending. The horror elements were creepier than expected — I had to stop reading before bed. Mission accomplished, I guess?
